Columbia Film Scheduler
Web Development, User Experience.
Columbia College came to the company I was working at and asked us to create an application that allowed them to manage the film departments equipment. The application allowed students to create projects for their current film classes where they could invite fellow film students to fulfill specific roles in that project. Projects had budgets and deadlines that could be controlled by the film department or the instructor of that class, and based on the deadlines the cost of equipment would go up helping to create a more realistic environment for film students.
The challenge for this application was creating an interface that would make it very easy for students to create gear orders that could contain any number of cameras and last for a variable amount of days. I accomplished this goal by creating an interactive calendar that showed users the relative number of each equipment for each day over a two week span and let them "drag select" the days they wanted for each camera and submit the gear order.
The second major challenge for this project was created a backend that the film administrators could use to easily manage equipment, students, classes and instructors. I was able to create a easy to use and straight forward interface that let administrators see all active projects in the next two weeks as well as a list of tasks that needed the administrators attention. I also let them create price sheets that they could apply to specific semesters to adjust prices on a semester-to-semester basis.
